CAR’s Promise for Hosting an Environmentally Friendly ASM
We understand the importance of the Canadian radiology community coming together in-person to network and share knowledge. We also understand that in-person gatherings have an impact on the environment. That is why the CAR is going green and taking action to preserve our natural environment by partnering with sustainable event venues, stakeholders and reviewing current practices with an eye on environmental impacts.
Le Westin Montréal Green Initiatives
We are also very pleased to be hosting our event at Le Westin Montréal, where they have been awarded 4 green keys by the Hotel Association of Canada and are committed to many green initiatives.
Their commitment includes:
- Having a Green Committee who is responsible for the development of environmental standards
- Recycling and use of recycled products available throughout the hotel in rooms, public areas and offices
- Participating in the Make a Green Choice Starwood Hotels & Resorts Initiative where clients can opt to refuse housekeeping services for the day
- Aligning with La Tablée des Chefs specifically collaborating with Mission Old Brewery to redistribute food overflow from events to a local community organization
- And many more green initiatives
What You Can Do As a Participant
Getting there:
- Choose an airline that has a young fleet age, direct flights, are trying to reduce waste on board, and is a member of the National Airlines Council of Canada
- Travel by train, bus, or carpool
- Extend your stay as this promotes tourism and reduces the carbon footprint of your trip
To and from the airport:
- Use a shuttle bus, an electric taxi company, or use the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) from the airport
Within Montreal:
- Use public transit: Metro, bus, carpooling
- Use active transportation: Walking, self-service bike-sharing
Additional actions participants can take:
- Bring your own refillable water bottle
- Bring your own personal hygiene products
- Sort your waste in appropriate bins at the venue, hotels and around the city
- Use the meeting app instead of printing an agenda of event details
- Bring a reusable bag for any outings
